OREANDA-NEWS  Hungary buys Russian oil openly and directly, while other European countries do it secretly and in a roundabout way. This was stated by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto. He was quoted by RIA Novosti.

He also noted that Croatia and the European Union had deprived his country of real alternative routes. In this regard, those who criticize Hungary for purchasing Russian energy resources, according to Szijjarto, are hypocrites who do not give up cheap oil from the Russian Federation. The minister urged not to forget that it was Brussels that once refused Hungary to increase the capacity of gas pipelines in Southeastern Europe. In turn, Croatia did not increase the capacity of the alternative oil pipeline leading to Hungary, but raised the transit fee five times. Thus, Budapest simply has no alternatives left, and therefore it continues to import Russian oil.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that Europe should stop buying oil of Russian origin. In addition, he believes that the EU should put pressure on China for its support of Russia.
