OREANDA-NEWS  DOM.RF put up for auction the property complex of the former Kresty pre-trial detention center in St. Petersburg. The starting price was more than a billion rubles, RIA Novosti reports.

The lot includes plots with a total area of 3.9 hectares, as well as various buildings with a total area of 41.2 thousand "squares". Some of the sites are part of a cultural heritage site. After the restoration, a multifunctional center can be organized on the site of the prison.

The Crosses were built in 1884-1889 on the Arsenalnaya Embankment. Initially, the area of the complex was 44 thousand "squares", but several buildings were not included in the lot. In particular, the current church of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky, which will be transferred to the local diocese, and the hostel did not go up for auction. In the past, many famous personalities, including Lev and Nikolai Gumilev, Joseph Brodsky, as well as Nikolai Zabolotsky, were imprisoned in the pre-trial detention center.

Earlier, another auction for the House of Moscow cultural center, which Latvia took from Russia, failed in Riga.
