The court recognized that the Russian authorities violated Articles 3 and 5 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

It is impossible to impose additional restrictions on life convicts when it comes to the ability to maintain contact with their families and loved ones, the ECHR explained.
