OREANDA-NEWS A tsunami may pose a threat to some regions of Russia. This was stated by seismologist Ruben Tatevosyan in a conversation with News.ru.

According to the expert, there are areas in the Far East where earthquakes can cause tsunamis. At the same time, he specified, the Kuril-Kamchatka arc, a zone with high seismic activity, is particularly dangerous.

"In the Asia-Pacific region and in the Pacific Rim in general, part of which is really related to the Russian Federation, of course, there may be tsunamis. The potential threat of a tsunami is associated with the Kuril-Kamchatka arc. There were seismic events that caused the tsunami in the future," the seismologist shared the information. Tatevosyan added that tsunamis have already occurred in the above—mentioned region, for example, after the powerful Shikotan earthquake and aftershocks in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Earlier in March, experts from the Russian National Reinsurance Company (RNPC) concluded that in 2025 the total damage from the spring flood in the Russian Federation would amount to five billion rubles.
