OREANDA-NEWS  The National Security Directorate under the South Korean presidential administration held an emergency meeting following reports of a missile launch by the DPRK on Wednesday morning.

According to the Yonhap news agency, officials from the Ministry of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the South Korean Armed Forces attended the meeting.

They said Pyongyang's launch of ballistic missiles was a "provocative act that violates UN Security Council resolutions," and called on the DPRK to immediately stop such actions.

The Office of National Security also instructed relevant authorities to strengthen South Korea's military readiness, given the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Yonhap clarifies that the South Korean military discovered on Wednesday morning the launch of several short-range ballistic missiles from the territory of the DPRK towards the Sea of Japan.

According to estimates by the South Korean military, the missiles flew about 240 km.

This was the fourth launch of ballistic missiles by North Korea this year.
