OREANDA-NEWS European countries are offering to deploy their forces in Ukraine in the rear areas, rather than near the line of contact, as part of security guarantees, The Washington Post reported on Thursday, citing sources.
According to the newspaper's interlocutors, their proposal includes the deployment of a contingent that will be "based far from the front line to serve to deter attacks in the future."
In addition, according to the plan, these forces will conduct "training and reconstruction of the Ukrainian army."
According to the publication, the American side told European colleagues that Washington could "provide additional air defense, including ensuring a no-fly zone, as well as assistance in the field of intelligence and surveillance."
Earlier, The Financial Times, citing sources, wrote that European countries that are ready to send their military to Ukraine to provide security guarantees have completed discussions on technical issues.
In August, US President Donald Trump held talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and a number of European leaders in Washington. Following their results, the head of the White House said that the United States would act as a coordinator in providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
The American leader has repeatedly stated that Europe must take the lead in providing support to Kiev.
The White House previously ruled out the possibility of sending the US military to Ukraine as part of security guarantees to resolve the conflict.
