Poland to send 5,000 troops to strengthen borders with Lithuania and Germany

OREANDA-NEWS 5,000 Polish troops will be sent to strengthen the protection of the borders with Germany and Lithuania, General Weslaw Kukula, Chief of the Polish General Staff, said on Polish Radio on Thursday.
"5,000 soldiers will be sent to the border. 4,000 of them will be sent to the Polish-German border, and a thousand will be sent to the Polish-Lithuanian border," said Kukla.
The head of the Polish General Staff noted that "illegal migration poses a significant threat to the security of the state."
"Moreover, border protection follows from the constitutional duties of the Polish army," said Kukla.
"We cannot avoid this task, just the opposite. We need to improve efficiency at the borders," he added.
As reported, Poland will introduce temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania on July 7. The measure was taken to counter illegal migration.
