OREANDA-NEWS  Deputies of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party submitted to the State Duma a draft resolution declaring amnesty in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the document is available in the Duma electronic database.

According to the document, it is proposed to release from punishment those sentenced to imprisonment for minor and moderate crimes for the first time. The amnesty can be extended to those who took part in military operations to defend the Fatherland, awarded state awards of the USSR or the Russian Federation, minors, women with disabled children, pregnant women, single men with minor children, men over 65 and women over 60, disabled people of groups I and II, as well as patients with cancer. diseases of group III or IV. The same categories of persons are subject to an amnesty in the form of a reduced sentence if they are convicted of intentional crimes for longer terms exceeding five years in prison.

"The decree declaring amnesty in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," the draft resolution says.

The amnesty bill provides for the release from punishment of convicted persons who have committed a crime by negligence, as well as a reduction in their sentence. The amnesty covers probation prisoners, convicts to whom the unserved part of the sentence has been replaced by a more lenient type of punishment, convicts whose sentence has been postponed, and those sentenced to non-custodial punishments, the explanatory document specifies.

"Let me remind you that the initiator of the first political amnesty in 1993 was the founder of the Liberal Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky. And we regularly submitted amnesty drafts, suggesting that the State Duma exercise this exclusive right more often. On the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, we believe that such an act of mercy should be considered. Today, many citizens brought to criminal responsibility have signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense and retired, but disabled people, minors, and women who have committed minor crimes remain in custody and under investigation. Therefore, the draft lists a number of categories that are proposed to be amnestied," said Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR), one of the authors of the document.
